Sister Ann Brawley, a Sister of Mercy for seventy-seven years died, Monday, February 15 at the age of 94, at St. Bernardine Home, Fremont, Ohio. A Fremont native, Ann was the daughter of James Brawley and Anna Morris Brawley and was preceded in death by three siblings: James Brawley, Betty Brawley and Margaret Sturtevant. She is survived by nieces and nephews.
She served at both Mercy and St. Charles hospitals, in Toledo as bookkeeper and was very influential in establishing group purchasing in the Central Development Office. She was invited by Church people for Change and Reconciliation in Lima to help coordinate the Kibby Corners Neighborhood Revitalization Project. Sister Ann also did accounting for St. Frances Achievement School, St. Hyacinth, St. Thomas and St. Ann Parishes, the Midwest Migrant Health information Office, Aurora House and Bittersweet Farms in Toledo.
Sister Ann worked on Marcy Kaptur’s first congressional campaign, and managed a congressional campaign for Fremont Judge James Sherck. Along with her passion for politics, she was a serious sports enthusiast and in the early seventies, served as president of the fan club of Minnesota Viking, Alan Page.
Sister Ann retired to St. Bernardine Home in Fremont in 1999.
Visitation will be on Thursday, February 18, 3:00 – 7:00 and Friday, until the time of the funeral. Mass of the Resurrection will take place on Friday at 4:00 p.m. followed by burial in Our Lady of the Pines Cemetery. All will take place at St. Bernardine Home in Fremont, Ohio.
